"Why Lead?"

Learn how to make the peer leadership experience a valuable step in students' professional growth.

Who Should Attend?

  • Professionals who coordinate undergraduate peer mentoring programs and are looking to expand their training skills by observing a model lesson and activities

  • Undergraduate college peer leaders in such programs as peer mentoring, student organizations, resident advising, peer education, tutoring, supplementary instruction, cultural ambassador, peer counseling/advising

Overview

Peer leadership is as much a learning experience for the students leading as the students they serve. College students often take positions as peer leaders, such as tutors, mentors, advisers, and club leaders.  However, most underestimate the application of these the skills developed through this position to their future careers. Having a clear personal investment in their leadership learning not only helps peer leaders excel but also improves programs because peer leaders have reasons to put more of themselves into their work. This interactive webcast will help students:

  • understand the significance of their work

  • consider how to set personal learning goals to get the most out of their experience

  • engage in a goal setting exercise

  • clarify their expectations for the peer leadership experience
