This course has significantly enhanced my professional skills, and I truly appreciate all the hard work that went into organizing it. The sessions were not only informative but also incredibly inspiring, and I am eager to apply the knowledge I gained in my work environment. Thank you once again for this valuable experience. I look forward to future learning opportunities.”
Why This Topic Matters
_______________
One large-scale survey of students who left college found that students leave "for one of three major reasons: dissatisfaction with the academic program, unclear career objectives, and unclear educational goals. Career advising specifically aims to help students solidify future career objectives and educational goals" (Menke, 2016).
_______________
Research indicates having career goals increases student success and retention. Yet, only 27% of students get help with a career plan, according to the most recent Student Voice survey. Effective career advising matters intensely to students and directly impacts retention but also, and most importantly, their ability to find their place and purpose in college and beyond.
These statistics have led to a trend of integrating introductory career advising into the fields of advising and success coaching. When advisors and coaches provide effective career advising support, they play a crucial role in student success by helping students develop appropriate career goals, feel more confident in their choice of major, complete their degrees and prepare for professional success after graduation.
