Peer Mentor Course Registration Details

Thank you for registering student(s) for the peer mentor course. Students will be added to the course management system within 72 business hours after receipt of payment. If you purchased registrations for future use, you will have 1 year from date of purchase to use those registrations. Please email new students’ names and email addresses to info@eduology.org. Below are the communications you or your student(s) will receive next plus tips for coordinators on course completion and certification. Please email info@eduology.org if you would like a progress report on your group. If you have questions at any point, please email them to info@eduology.org, and we’ll get back to you promptly!

Welcome email

An email goes out when the students are added to the course management system and provides a welcome, overview of class and access information as well as a contact email if they have any questions. Students receive a second email from the course management system that also gives course access information. The email is copied at the bottom of this page, so you can see the details.

If you or your student(s) doesn’t receive either email, please email info@eduology.org. The emails may be in a junk folder, blocked by the campus email system or due to a typo in the email address that was entered in the course system.

This series of 8 emails goes out weekly. The students receive a weekly challenge activity that enhances their learning around peer mentoring. For instance, one challenge has students assess their professionalism, another has students assess their personal safety while mentoring, and a third asks students to start up a conversation with someone new to practice establishing rapport. The challenges also provide course information and reminders to complete 1-2 hours of the course for the week.

Challenge Emails

The completion rates on this course are very high. However, there are tips program coordinators can use to support students in completing their course. We recommend the following:

  • Provide a hard deadline for course completion within 8-10 weeks of starting.

  • Provide a deadline for starting the course and completing the first unit. We suggest they do this within 1-2 weeks of receiving the welcome email. This ensures they troubleshoot any issues accessing the course or figuring out the course system earlier rather than later.

  • Provide an extrinsic motivator for completing the course. For example, acknowledge everyone who has completed the course at an end of semester mentor celebration.

Encouraging Course Completion

Students receive a course completion certificate at the end of their course. However, to receive the full Eduology National Peer Mentor Certifcation, they have to complete 25 hours of peer mentoring work verified by their supervisor. When they complete those hours, they will fill out an application that’s available to them at the end of their peer mentor course along with detailed instructions. They fill out one page and have you fill out the second page with your verification and endorsement. You return the application for them to upload in the course system. We review, approve and send their certification within 1 business week.

If you have a group of 5 or more, we have a group verification form to cut down on paperwork on your end. Instead of completing verification forms for each mentor, you will be sent a form to verify all the mentors on one spreadsheet. Please email info@eduology.org for that form if you are interested.

Completing Certification

Welcome Email Students Receive

Hello,

You or your supervisor on your campus enrolled you for these courses to teach you about peer leadership/mentoring and tutoring. My name is Lisa, and I am the instructor.  Simply go to https://eduology.thinkific.com/ and use your email address as your username and reset your password. Then click on the course titles to get started. Be sure to check with your supervisor to determine when your deadline is for completing the course.

Here is what you need to know about the peer mentoring course:

1) There are 14 short units (divided into a reading, activity and resource review with optional videos). Each unit takes about 30 minutes each to complete;

2) There is a workbook to download in the Introduction Unit to use for keeping your notes and completing activities (print and write notes if possible or answer the questions in a word doc if you prefer). This workbook does NOT get turned into the course management system but gives you a reading guide to complete, helps you complete your quizzes, provides a record of what you learned (you’re creating your own textbook!) and improves your learning experience while also providing you paper copies of activities and resources;

3) There is a pre- and post- assessment and 4 short, open-note tests based on your workbook answers;

4) This course should feel easy, so if you feel stressed about it or have questions, please email me right away! I am here to help and support you!

This course is supposed to be informative and helpful to your mentoring. The tests are open-book and open-note (more like review assignments). If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email me at this address. I would be happy to help with any questions. Enjoy! I hope you find it fun and interesting.

Yours truly,

Lisa
