Creating Your Career Development Course Curriculum & Assignments

***

March 1st, 2023 | 2:00 p.m. EST - 3:15 p.m. EST | $395

Learn from experts at 2 institutions how to create the content for your evidence-career development course for first-year and exploratory students.

WHY THIS TOPIC MATTERS (THE STATS)

64.5% of sophomores surveyed were still unsure of their major (in Schreiner, 2018). A well-designed career development course gives students the tools to make critical choices around choosing a career path and major.

Students entering college need learning and guidance about choosing a career path and the major that will lead them there. Research studies highlight the importance of this work. According to the Institute of Education Sciences (2017), approximately 33% of bachelor degree students change majors at least once before graduation, and, upwards of 50% of students are exploratory majors (Nelson, Martin, and Cunningham, 2012).

Even after graduating college, “nearly 2 in 5 American college graduates have major regrets” (Washington Post). Knowing how to develop your career advising course or workshop content will help you support students not just in choosing a major, but in choosing a major that will lead them in the right direction for their lives.
