Finding Common Ground: Managing Disagreement with Professionalism in Student Support Settings

Complimentary Webinar | June 18th, 2026 | 12:00 p.m. - 12:30 p.m. EST

Disagreement is a constant in higher education settings—whether with students, colleagues, or leadership. The challenge is not avoiding conflict, but managing it in a way that maintains professionalism, preserves relationships, and keeps the focus on student outcomes.

Program Overview

This 30-minute overview introduces a practical approach to navigating disagreement using structured communication techniques and real-world scenarios from student support and career services contexts. Participants will learn how to move conversations from positions to shared goals, even when perspectives differ.

Following this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Diagnose why a disagreement is occurring (values, incentives, information gaps)

  • Respond in real time using a structured engagement approach (ASK–LISTEN–REFLECT–AGREE–SHARE)

  • Navigate disagreement with students, colleagues, and leadership without escalation
