Trauma impacts large numbers of college students—85% or more according to research. To ensure student retention and success, colleges must pivot quickly with a trauma-informed response.

Trauma-informed care creates an atmosphere within student support programs—including academic advising, tutoring, TRIO and academic programs—that respects students’ need for safety and acceptance. By creating this atmosphere, students feel empowered to move beyond trauma responses and strive for success.

In this webinar, you will learn the principals to infuse trauma-informed care into your student support programming. You will also consider the stages of developing trauma-informed care, starting with staff awareness and moving toward staff training, policy review and supportive organizational structures. You will learn trust-building practices and consider specific details, organization, and strategies in developing and implementing trauma-informed programming. Instructors

Lisa Scheese, Ph.D., Assistant Teaching Professor, Educational Leadership & Policy Analysis, University of Missouri

Lisa teaches courses in the Ed.D., Higher Education, and BES programs, and is the Coordinator for the Educational Doctorate Program in Educational Leadership as well as the Bachelor of Educational Studies-Educational Leadership track.

Prior to joining the College of Education, Lisa worked as a teaching assistant for Title I schools, and served in several administrative roles, including: Coordinator of the Success Center at Stephens College, Academic Advisor, and Assistant and Interim Director of the largest single TRIO Student Support Services Program in the nation, where her primary focus was on supporting underrepresented students.

She earned her undergraduate degree from Columbia College in Business and Management Information Systems, her Master’s in Business Administration with an emphasis in Instructional Technology from Stephens College, and her Ph.D. from the University of Missouri.


Jill Putman, Director of Academic College Partnerships in the Career Center at Colorado State University

Jill Putman (she/her) is the Director of Academic College Partnerships in the Career Center at Colorado State University (CSU). In her role, she manages a team of career professionals that advance career education strategies and initiatives in seven academic colleges at CSU. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Political Science from Miami University and a Master of Education degree in College Student Affairs Administration from the University of Georgia. Jill is a first-generation college graduate and passionate about educational access, equity, and promoting asset-based approaches to student success.
