Moving Toward a Blended Academic and Career Advising Model (Webinar)

March 15th, 2022 | 2:00 p.m. ET - 3:15 p.m. ET | $395

Consider key elements of blended academic and career advising programs and explore models from three different institutions.

Why This Topic Matters

This model solves equity and student success issues on campus centered around students’ need for career development and career goal-setting early in their college careers. Career conversations are critical to student success. From responding to concerns about the costs of college to making learning meaningful and relevant, students benefit from holistic academic advising.

On many campuses, however, career services remain optional and fragmented. Students are expected to seek assistance on their own, which is often difficult for first-generation students who are unacquainted with the college environment. This program provides solutions that move toward a more blended academic and career advising model to bolster equity and student success.

Who Should Attend?

This session is intended for senior leaders, advising professionals, career service specialists, or faculty who want to transform the access and inclusion embedded in individual career conversations or the design of their campus environment.

  • Directors, Advisors and Coordinators overseeing academic advising

  • Directors, Advisors and Coordinators overseeing career services

  • Academic Deans, Provosts and Vice Presidents who oversee academic advising and/or career services

Overview

Integrating career and academic advising helps close equity gaps in higher education by ensuring all students receive the career development they need from the start of their college career. This program will help institutions who want to integrate existing offices or cultivate cross-campus collaboration but question where to start or wonder which challenges they may encounter along the way.

Nationally, students report they do not receive the career information they desire or need. Institutions have recently given thoughtful consideration to the ways educational and vocational planning are intertwined. This webinar will help enhance your ability to create organizational structures that foster success and career engagement among all students. Attendees will hear from three institutions who have been recognized nationally for their integration of career and academic advising.

This engaging webinar will provide pragmatic insights and tangible strategies to:

  • Identify common inequities entrenched in traditional career decision-making.

  • Provide integrated individual conversations that focus on both academic and career success·

  • Assess the feasibility of integrating career and academic advising functions

  • Audit existing campus practices to identify gaps and opportunities for integration

  • Collaborate with diverse stakeholders to implement integrated programming or resources
