Overview

Universities across the country have experienced a significant increase in the demand for mental health services. The acuity of mental health concerns has increased and the responsibility for students’ well-being has increasingly become more of a campus-wide initiative.

This workshop* will explore various myths around suicide, some warning signs, and ways to approach a student who might be suicidal. In the clinical field experts report the more confident a clinician can feel working with a suicidal client, the more confident they will feel working with ANY client. College staff and faculty can gain the same benefits working with college students. Join the facilitator on a journey to increase your confidence. In this interactive webinar you will explore:

*Disclaimer: The facilitator is QPR trained/certified and the intervention method that will be discussed is similar to QPR. However, QPR requires longer training and is very specific. Instructor

Kel Lee Cutrell, PsyD, LPC, CPCS, Associate Director, Counseling Services, University of North Georgia

Kel Lee currently supervises staff across 5 campuses, conducts group therapy sessions, and holds a caseload for individual therapy. She oversees the PostVention Guide for the university and coordinates the training of those members. She participates in multiple campus-wide events such as Fresh Check Day, ReFresh Check, DeStress Fest, and Paws and Relax. She has worked with doctoral practicum students and will begin this training again with master’s level students at a local university.

 Kel Lee has been a Licensed Professional Counselor since 1997. She completed her doctorate in 2005. She has had extensive training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Interpersonal Neurobiology, and Animal-Assisted Psychotherapy. Kel Lee is also certified in College and University Suicide Prevention. Kel Lee has been a counselor with UNG Gainesville Student Counseling Center since 2012, but has worked in higher education since 2004 and believes there is no better job!
