Why This Topic Matters

Turnover in academic advising has risen, which leads to poor student experience. An advising career ladder can reverse this trend.

Who Should Attend?

This session is intended for those overseeing advising services, including:

  • Academic Deans, Provost and Vice Presidents

  • Academic Advising Directors and Assistant Directors

Overview

Academic advisors tend to job hop when they feel underappreciated and tied to positions that never evolve, no matter how much experience or expertise they offer. Resulting employee attrition leads to lack of human resources, low morale, and a poor student experience.

A documented program for career progression that both motivates and rewards good advising is a key initiative for attracting and retaining excellent advisors. In this webinar, you will learn how to develop a career ladder for academic advisors, from initial concept to written proposal. Join us for this interactive training to:

  • Understand why more and more academic advisors are leaving their positions and the consequences of attrition.

  • Recognize the benefits of a career ladder for employees, the institution, and students.

  • Learn the first steps in developing your plan, including researching background information, forming a committee, and recognizing important considerations.

  • Explore documented examples of existing career ladders that will exemplify essential information.

  • Understand what should be included in a written proposal for a career ladder initiative.
